Commercial 18oz Vinyl

We often receive inquiries about material specifications for commercial products.   How many oz is your vinyl?   This question is a bit complex, because of the multitude of components and processes that go into creating Blast Zone commercial inflatables.  Everything from 72oz (for reinforced impact areas) to 18oz vinyl for structural component surfacing (such as bounce and slide surfaces), to 7oz (for decorative non-structural areas such as palm fronds) are used in assembly.

The goal in the construction of BZ commercial Inflatables is to create the most durable, safe product possible, that is manageable and practical for the owner.  Over years of production and hundreds-of-thousands of products created and sold, numerous safety and quality advancements have been achieved.

Impact surfaces, which take the structural abuse in the inflatable, utilize 18 oz vinyl, which is additionally reinforced up to "72 OZ."  This reinforcement process is achieved by permanently fusing together multiple sheets of vinyl near the assembly area, before the components are joined together.  This creates a virtually impenetrable joint for ultimate durability.

As an example of which components use various material, in the image below, The only 7 oz material used is for the light green fronds on the palm trees, while the impact surfaces are 18oz and up.  Additionally, slide and climbing surfaces have a removable, replaceable protective cover,  as these are the components that tend to wear out over the years.  This allows the operator to replace only the small portion being worn by use, rather than the entire unit, helping further maximize the investment.

Additionally, Blast Zone uses full commercial vinyl membranes inside the inflatable.  Some products cut corners by using patchwork membranes, made of scraps sewn together, or lighter duty, even nylon membranes.  These low grade options will lead to bubbling of bounce surfaces, as they tear apart over time.

Blast Zone Home Use Inflatables comply with new ASTM Safety Standards

Blast Zone, the nation's Leading Manufacturer of Inflatable Toys for Home Use and Commercial Applications is pleased to announce it meets and exceeds new ASTM manufacturing guidelines.

Over the last few years, focus has increased on product safety.   In 2008, The Consumer Product Safety Commission drafted the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), aimed at improving the safety of millions of products, especially those used by children.   Blast Zone Brand Inflatables have always undergone rigorous engineering and safety testing, and have complied with the CPSIA since its inception.

Now, another agency, the ASTM has released Safety Standard, "F2729 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Constant Air Inflatable Play Devices for Home Use,"  and Blast Zone has further refined the safety and reliability of its renowned Inflatable line, showcased at BlastZone.com.  These voluntary standards include guidelines for: the design and features of the electric blower; requirements for safety enclosures; platform height/impact guidelines; instructional requirements; and more.

While ASTM provides safety and manufacturing guidelines for thousands of categories worldwide,  this new ASTM standard is the first to directly address inflatable toys designed specifically for Home Use (Guidelines already exist for Commercial Inflatables).

ASTM standards require substantial dedication to engineering and product development and Blast Zone is committed to these additional safety guidelines.  Because Blast Zone has always emphasized safety in the product development process, only a few minor changes were required.  The changes were primarily to products in cases where they are not specifically required,   for example side wall height was increased for smaller water slides where it was determined safety could be further improved, even though not required by the guidelines.

As always, Blast Zone Inflatables comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission rules for contaminants (including lead and phthalates) and safety guidelines.

* Blast Zone Inflatables continue to comply with the broad ASTM Standard F963, specification for toy safety.

"ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards.
Today, some 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence. "
